The Shibuya Incident arc of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is indeed a massive shift and takes both the characters and the story to their extremes. That is quite possibly the most hot-blooded, dramatic, action-packed, and dramatic arc of the series thus far. The next few events show what transpires at the Shibuya Incident from the confusion right to the aftermath:
The Chaos Begins: October 31st
The Shibuya Incident begins on Halloween, October 31 as all the curse users and the spirits decide to attack the Shibuya district. The goal is clear: as a containment method for Satoru Gojo, the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer. The disturbance starts when a veil is deployed over Shibuya area, allowing people and jujutsu sorcerers to be confined. Since Gojo enters Shibuya to face the danger, he meets his numerous opponents: cursed spirits and special level curses, such as Jogo, Hanami, and Choso.
Gojo’s Unrivaled Power
During one of the greatest moments of the arc, Gojo directly confronts the curses and shows how powerful he actually is. He uses his Domain Expansion called Infinite Void and Eradicates a number of enemies and a large portion of them. But all of this is in accord with a broader plan. Just how stupid are the enemies this time, they are fully aware that they cannot face Gojo in a fight.
The Sealing of Satoru Gojo
The climax of the arc is in sealing Satoru Gojo with the Prison Realm, an attribute cursed tool that can imprison even the Six greatest sorcerers. This episode can be regarded as a dramatic climax of the story. Meet Gojo’s finals, and now the former villain group gets a massive power boost, and the curses win over the balance of sorcerers.
Yuji’s Struggle and Sukuna’s Rampage
In the course of the given arc, Yuji Itadori fights multiple villains, notably a curse user named Mahito. But the worst comes to the last, when the king of curses, Sukuna, possessing the body of Yuji, takes over. During the final battle in Shibuya, Sukuna creates a lot of havoc and loses many lives as well, intensifying more confusion. Yuji’s conflict with Sukuna’s power becomes a theme, which also raises the question of how much the protagonist suffers.
The Tragic Deaths and Major Battles
The Shibuya Incident has several tragic casualties, all of which have impacts on the characters and the viewers majorly. One of the saddest is the death of Kento Nanami who dies at the hands of Mahito. Other sorcerers also get defeated during this arc, to portray the ugly side of the fight against curses.
Some of the massive battles in this arc are where Yuji fights Mahito, and it reaches a point the latter brings out the worst of Yuji. At the same time, the main heroine, Megumi Fushiguro, fights against Toji Zenin – a powerful sorcerer, who has come back from the world of the dead. These fights are not solely violent, but dramatic, as the characters reveal their internal conflict all the way to an individual will to fight.
The Aftermath: A World Changed Forever
As for the consequences of the Shibuya Incident Jujutsu Kaisen’s world is completely different going forward. Due to Gojo finally being sealed and the death or incapacitation of many sorcerers, the jujutsu world is in chaos. Due to Gojo’s absence of power, the curses get more power which has paved the way for future clashes. The remaining sorcerers are therefore left to count the losses but at the same time joining the ongoing battles.
Of them, Yuji is most emotionally destroyed because of what occurred in Shibuya. The magnitude of the weight represented by the lives and properties that were destroyed by Sukuna is very enormous to handle. It ends with the jujutsu sorcerers being down but not out, as they realise that there is still much more work to be done in fighting curses.
